DESIGN CRITIQUE LAB
In today's user-empowered digital ecosystem, how can organizations harness user-centric design methodologies paired with UX best practices to drive organic, internal platform evolution?
THE CHALLENGE
How can we transform the design of a learning platform's webpage to achieve a seamless and user-friendly experience that accelerates the learning of functionalities, while minimizing user challenges?
Our critique focuses on overcoming obstacles in platform functionality, establishing intuitive user pathways, and crafting a compelling visual design that enhances the entire user journey. Leveraging user-driven research, analysis, and feedback is crucial to continually refining and optimizing the platform, ensuring it remains intuitive and effortless to use.
OUR APPROACH
Our approach was focused on enhancing the user experience by engaging with non-tech-savvy users already on the platform. By incorporating user voices throughout the critique process, we were able to validate or challenge our own assumptions, leading to more user-centric design decisions. This holistic approach ensured that the resulting design improvements were practical and valuable to the target user group.
Additionally, we employed multiple research and design tools/methodologies to provide comprehensive recommendations for the organization.
-
A competitor audit was conducted to benchmark against industry standards and identify potential areas for differentiation or improvement.
-
This was complemented by a heuristic analysis, which involved evaluating the product against usability principles to uncover potential pain points and opportunities.
-
Throughout the process, UX best practices were applied to ensure that all & 7 design decisions were grounded in proven methodologies for creating intuitive, efficient, and consistent user interfaces.
THE OUTCOMES
Our focus on improving the experience for non-tech-savvy users led to valuable recommendations across multiple aspects of the interface. We identified quick wins and tactics for enhancement, including typography, color usage, button design, and navigation, which would aid in improving the platform's efficiency, visibility, and learnability. On the strategic and future focused side, we provided suggestions for refining course creation, activity editing, and feedback processes, as these are crucial for a platform's functionality. By addressing these elements, along with improvements to the dashboard and overall navigation of the platform, the design critique provided a roadmap with practical implementations one could employ tomorrow, and recommendations for the future to create and sustain a more intuitive and user-friendly platform.
